5-4-3-2-1: Kate Boorman

By Jim Dean, November 16, 2015

Really pleased to have Kate Boorman celebrate the release a few weeks ago of Darkthaw (Faber & Faber), the sequel to Winterkill, taking part in 5-4-3-2-1 today!

5 books you’d save from a burning bookcase

1984 by George Orwell
The Talisman by Stephen King & Peter Straub
Ronia the Robber’s Daughter by Astrid Lindgren
The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien
The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood

4 places you love to read

In the bath
In a sunbeam, sitting on my couch
On the beach, though that happens rarely
By a campfire, out in the wilds

3 songs that sum up the last novel you wrote perfectly

I just finished HEARTFIRE, book 3 in the Winterkill trilogy, so….
How Loud Your Heart Gets by Lucius — it’s about growing up and the changes that come with that, and also about an enduring love that crosses impossible distance
Bad Blood by Bastille — minus the “drinking in the park” line (not too many parks in Winterkill-landia), the revenge & redemption aspect fits really well.
Alive by Sia — could be Emmeline’s theme song!

2 pieces of advice you’d give yourself if you could travel back in time to before you became a published author

Set a daily schedule (which involves this thing called ‘exercise’)
Take regular internet hiatus

1 item of swag you’d love to see made (could be for your own book or someone else’s, or a mix)

I really think it might be handy to have a keychain thurible (from Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy). Should you ever run into an errant soul that needs harnessing/keeping, you would be so prepared! Like bam! I have my thurible right here on my key ring!

What do you think?
