5-4-3-2-1:Tamsin Cooke

By Jim Dean, January 18, 2016

As big fans of Cat Burglar, the first in debut author Tamsin Cooke’s Scarlet Files series – a fast-paced read with a great heroine – we’re delighted to have Tamsin taking part in 5-4-3-2-1 today!

Five books you’d save from a burning bookcase

Harry Potter by JK Rowling – The whole collection. I’m cheating a little having them as one book but I’m a Harry Potter geek through and through. You can’t make me choose!

Wojtek The Bear by Aileen Orr – Not only a wonderful real story about a bear war hero, my mum gave me the book just before she died. We spent ages discussing the story. Just looking at the cover, takes me back to those very precious moments.

The Dreamsnatcher by Abi Elphinstone – Signed to my daughter with the most beautiful personal message.

The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe by CS Lewis – This book helped me through childhood, always being there for me when needed.

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee – My favourite book ever!

Four TV shows you can watch all day long (when not busy writing)

The West Wing – I love the witty fast paced dialogue, the relationships between the characters, as well as the insight into the White House.

The News Room – Such a clever idea to have a fictional newsroom reporting on events that really happened. Plus the opening scene is possibly one of the best I’ve ever seen on TV.

Big Bang Theory – I’d laugh out loud all day.

Teen Wolf – A guilty pleasure. This show makes me laugh, cry, hide behind the sofa. And there are certain characters who are very nice to look at!

Three places you love to read

Curled up on my chair in my writing room, with a large cup of tea and my dog at my feet.

On the train. I can sit and read a whole book without any interruption.

On holiday by a pool. I can lie in the sun, read a book and have a cocktail in my hand.

Two authors you’d want with you if you were stranded on a desert island

JK Rowling – I’d ask her so many questions about the characters I adore. Plus I’d try to persuade her to write a book with Luna Lovegood in the starring role.

Andy McNab – With all his SAS training, he’d make me feel very safe. He’d be able to build a cabin, catch lunch and tell me thrilling war stories.

One item of swag you’d love to see made

A headband with prongs that light up depending upon your mood. In SF Said’s Phoenix, the alien Bixa has needles sticking out of her head that move and change colour reflecting her feelings. The headband could have settings such as playful, irritable, content…

Tamsin loves to travel, have adventures and see wild animals. She likes to think her Nahualli (spirit animal) would be a lioness or a jaguar but her friends tell her it’s a Labradoodle!
