6 Degrees: Harry Potter to…

By Jim Dean, February 6, 2016

We’re really happy to present the first edition of our #6degrees meme today! A huge thank you, once again, to Annabel Smith and Emma Chapman for letting us use their idea. If you want to join in, just start with Harry Potter and make your own chain of six books, linking in any way you like. (And remember to add the link at the end!)

Harry Potter has some of the most memorable characters in children’s fiction, including a superb trio of friends in Harry, Hermione and Ron. Another book with a fantastic trio of friends is Sara Barnard’s Beautiful Broken Things.

Beautiful Broken Things
is a February debut I’ve read, loved and am eagerly awaiting other people’s reactions to – just like Alwyn Hamilton’s Rebel of the Sands.

Rebel of the Sands is a beguiling fantasy with a Middle Eastern style setting – as is EK Johnston’s stunning A Thousand Nights.

A Thousand Nights
is one of the most gorgeous hardbacks I’ve seen published recently, as is The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell (my favourite book of 2015, which I may have mentioned before just once or twice…)

And The Wolf Wilder has a brave, tough heroine you simply have to admire, ‘dark and stormy girl’ Feo. She’d almost certainly be great friends with another fantastic MG main character in a similar vein, Moll, who first appeared in Abi Elphinstone’s The Dreamsnatcher and will return at the end of the month in the brilliant The Shadow Keeper.

While we’ve really loved putting this together, we are also extremely excited that we’ll be bringing some great guest posts here throughout the month! Next up, on February 13th, is The Sleeping Prince author Melinda Salisbury, and on February 20th it’s awesome blogger Caitlin from Chronically Caitlin.
